Special Seminar

Reducing the novice-expert perception gap in mathematics to increase diversity in STEM

Sheila Tabanli

Location:  rsvp info in abstract
Date & time: Tuesday, 02 April 2024 at 10:30AM - 11:15PM

I will talk about the research behind the characteristics of experts vs. novices and the implications of these differences to math teaching and learning with the goal of improving faculty awareness of students' experiences in math classrooms and to support our students and colleagues better in their experiences.  We also have a virtual student panel who will share their insights and perceptions about their math classrooms in K-12 and Rutgers.

This proposal is an extension of the math autobiography project that I assigned to my students in Math 125.

Those interested RSVP from the link here to obtain zoom info.

(funded by the Tyler Clementi Center for Diversity Education and Bias Prevention Division of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement (DICE) Research2Practice Program. )
