Siddhartha Sahi , Rutgers University: Even the most abstract mathematical research has a strongcomponent of numerical and symbolic experimentation, at least in the initial stages. My own research interests are somewhat diverse, ranging from applied areas such as combinatorics, statistics, and mathematicaleconomics, to more pure areas such as algebra, analysis, and representation theory. In the course of my research, I have identified several experimental projects that can be fruitfully carried out by an undergraduate, with considerable pedagogical benefit to both mentor and mentee. I will try to describe some of these in my talk.
