Circle packings, numerical integration and open problems

Stefan Steinerberger, Yale: It is pretty well understood what happens when one tries tonumerically approximate an integral (over, say, some nice domain in theEuclidean plane); we describe the classical results in that directionwhich say that this can be done nicely if the function doesn't oscillatetoo wildly and then ask what happens if the function satisfies a partialdifferential equation. Already the simplest case leads to a problem incircle packings - using a recent result of Kontorovich & Oh, the answerturns out to be quite interesting. We also discuss some related openproblems.
