The Minimal Model Program (MMP) aims to construct, for any algebraic variety, a birational model that is as simple as possible. Conjecturally, every MMP terminates after finitely many steps; in particular, many natural invariants of the algebraic variety are expected to take only finitely many possible values during the MMP. I'll present some joint work with Jingjun Han and Lu Qi that uses tools inspired by the study of Kähler–Einstein metrics to prove such finiteness results for general type MMPs.
