Counting Surfaces in 3-Manifolds

Abstract: I will talk about some rigidity phenomena and inequalities relating asymptotic counts of surfaces in hyperbolizable 3-manifolds and curvature.  The methods and ideas involve Ricci flow, homogeneous dynamics, and analogies to Anosov flows.  Based on joint work with Sebastien Alvarez and Graham Smith, and Andre Neves.
