On the Quantum Hall Effects: Status of Theory and Experiment

Bertrand Halperin – Harvard University

Location:  zoom
Date & time: Wednesday, 29 September 2021 at 10:45AM - 11:45AM

The various quantum Hall effects, which occur in two-dimensional electron systems in a strong magnetic field, have been a subject of study for more than forty years.  Although quantum Hall systems are well understood in many respects, puzzles still remain. I will review the key concepts that underlie our current understanding of these systems, and I will discuss some open questions and some recent developments in both theory and experiment.
