Title
“On the density functional theory and the Poisson-Boltzmann equation”

The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is an elegant macroscopic equation used extensively in structural biology to compute shapes of molecules.  In this talk I will report on recent results on the derivation of the linearized  Poisson-Boltzmann equation in dielectrics from the (microscopic) density functional theory (DFT). I will also review some background on the DFT and mention some open problems. This is a joint work with Ilias Chenn.
