Tails of KPZ: large deviations of a random growth model

Abstract:   Introduced in 1986, the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation is a stochastic PDE that models a type of randomly growing surfaces. This talk focuses on the one-point large deviations of the solution to the KPZ equation. I will introduce the background and recent research activity around large deviations of the KPZ equation. Then I will describe two recent works that each establish the one-point upper- and lower-tail large deviation principle of the KPZ equation.
