Abstract: After reviewing the classical Hamiltonian particle mechanics and its corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi Theory (HJT), I will present several covariant field-theoretic generalizations of HJT, including those of DeDonder-Weyl and Caratheodory.  I will describe what is meant by Least Invasive Quantization (LIQ), investigate possible field-theoretic generalizations of LIQ, and comment on how such an approach could pave the way toward a quantum theory of gravity.

This is a report about ongoing joint work with Maaneli Derakhshani and Michael Kiessling.
