Nonlinear Analysis

Liquid Crystal Droplets and Sharp Interface Models

Fanghua Lin, Courant Institute

Location:  Hill 705
Date & time: Wednesday, 26 September 2018 at 1:40PM - 3:00PM

Abstract:    Liquid crystal droplets are of great interest from physics and applications. They are important in the study of the topological defects (both in a bulk and on a surface), in understanding of the surface energy and anchoring conditions. Rigorous mathematical analysis are challenging; and here remains many open questions.  In this lecture I shall describe some recent work concerning liquid crystal droplets and sharp interface limits in several models of liquid crystals.
