Special Seminar

Some Computational Aspects of Variants of the Sphere Packing Problem

Steve Miller - Rutgers University

Location:  CoRE 301
Date & time: Tuesday, 15 May 2018 at 12:00PM - 1:00PM

Abstract:  In 1611, Kepler posed the challenge of finding the densest configuration of equal-sized, non-overlapping balls in space.  I'll discuss a variant of this problem: how to find the configuration of points that minimizes potential energy, and how Amarel was used to help solve it in some high dimensional situations.
