The Grandmother of all Algorithms
Doron Zeilberger, Rutgers University
Location: HILL 425
Date & time: Monday, 02 October 2017 at 7:00PM - 8:00PM
Abstract: The Euclidean algorithm is even older than Euclid, but is still useful after all these years! One recent application is for making up many examples where using the wrong method for simplifying fractions lead to the correct answer, like 16/64=1/4 obtained by "canceling out" the digit 6 from the top and bottom.
