Nonlinear Analysis

 On the Prandtl's boundary layer theory

Abstract:  A fundamental problem in fluid dynamics is to understand the asymptotic behavior of Navier-Stokes flows in the inviscid or high Reynolds number limit. In domains with a boundary, the classical Prandtl's theory is to postulate the flow into an inviscid one, plus a boundary layer.

In this talk, I shall present recent results, based on joint work with E. Grenier, showing in particular that the Prandtl's ansatz is not valid, when involving a single Prandtl's layer (regardless of their initial stability property with respect to the inviscid flow).
