Jinyoung Park wins 2023 Mirzakhani Prize New Frontiers Prize by the Breakthrough Foundation

2020 Rutgers Mathematics Ph.D. Jinyoung Park was named one of the three recipients of the 2023 Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prizes by the Breakthrough Foundation.  This prize is awarded annually to 3 women mathematicians who have recently completed their Ph.D.'s and obtained important results.  The Breakthrough Prizes were founded by Sergey Brin, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, Julia and Yuri Milner, and Anne Wojcicki, with prizes ranging up to $3,000,000 in value.  The name honors the late Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to win the Fields Medal in mathematics.

Jinyoung studied under the direction of Rutgers Prof. Jeffry Kahn and was partially supported by the Sean and Janice Pattwell Fellowship while a student at Rutgers.  Her research is in discrete mathematics.  While a student she coauthored a paper with Professors Kahn and Bhargav Narayanan, as well as fellow graduate student Keith Frankston, proving the Fractional Kahn-Kalai conjecture.  In later joint work, she proved the full Kahn-Kalai conjecture.  Congratulations to Jinyoung!!
