Nonequilibrium steady states for some simple systems with reservoirs modeled by Lindblad equations

We consider some simple quantum systems in which the dynamics is Hamiltonian in the bulk, but in which there is a coupling to one or more reservoirs modeled by a Lindblad operator acting local on part or parts of the system.  There are many interesting questions even with coupling to only one reservoir. For instance, when if ever is there a unique steady state that is the Gibbs state determined by the Hamiltonian? When it is not a Gibb's state, what is the structure of the steady state, and can there exist currents in the steady state? We present recent results relating to these and related questions. This is joint work with David Huse and Joel Lebowitz.
