Abstract: A millimetric droplet may self-propel along the surface of a vibrating fluid bath, guided by its quasi-monochromatic pilot-wave. Experimental studies reveal that this hydrodynamic pilot-wave system may exhibit certain features previously thought to be exclusive to solid-state, optical or quantum systems. Examples include analog lattice structures, static and dynamic bound states, spin lattices, Friedel oscillations and quantized orbital states. We here focus on the experimental studies of this hydrodynamic pilot-wave system and the accompanying theoretical models that have provided rationale for the emergent behavior. Particular attention is given to elucidating the manner in which the non-Markovian nature of the droplet dynamics is responsible for the richness of this classical pilot-wave system.
