Math 497: Topics in Elementary Mathematics


I am a first-year visiting post-doc and I will be co-teaching this course with Alejandro Uribe during the fall semester of 2011.

Course Content: Selected topics in geometry, algebra, computer programming, logic, and combinatorics for prospective and in-service elementary, middle, or junior-high school teachers.

Prerequisites: Math 489 or permission

Intended Audience: undergraduates in the Elementary Teaching Certificate Program

Description: This is a required course for elementary teaching certificate candidates that extends and deepens the coverage of mathematics begun in the required two-course sequence Math 385-489. Topics are chosen from geometry, algebra, computer programming, logic, and combinatorics. Applications and problem-solving are emphasized.
