Matlab 5.1 or later and a compatible C-compiler is required--the compiler must be able to work with Matlab to produce mex-files. (A compiler is not required under Windows 95.) At least on Unix platforms both the standard C-compiler cc and the GNU compiler gcc work with Matlab. Check the Matlab documentation for your system (the ``MATLAB Application Program Interface Guide'' is the relevant document).
