Exam grades and course grades
The exams have been graded and course grades were submitted to the Registrar's computer system late on Wednesday, December 27. I am not sure how long the system takes before grades are displayed to students. I've also sent e-mail to all of the students using their Rutgers addresses.

University regulations require that final exams be retained by instructors. Students who wish to inspect their final exams and/or discuss their course grades should see me. A good preliminary step is to send e-mail to me. To get "numbers" for course grades I added the two in-class exams and the final exam. I computed another 150 points using the Maple labs (25 points) and from the workshops (125 points). I essentially assigned letter grades using a scale proportional to the exam grade letter scale.

Review material for the second exam
The second exam will be given on Tuesday, November 21. It will begin at the standard classroom time and place. Please remember that on that Tuesday, Rutgers will follow its regular Thursday class schedule.

I have reserved Hill 525 on Sunday, November 19, from 2 to 4 PM to discuss textbook problems or anything else useful for exam preparation. The exam will cover the material of:
sections 14.7 and 14.8 (max/min and constrained max/min), 15.1-15.5 and 15.7-15.9 (multiple integrals, but systematic change of coordinates [Jacobians, etc.] only in two dimensions [other than spherical coordinates, so 12.7 is also "covered" in this exam. 15.6, surface area, has not been discussed so far in the course and will not be covered on this exam.

In recent years I have twice given exams in Math 291 at almost similar times in the semester.

A triple integral evaluated using Maple We discussed how to change triple integrals into triply iterated integrals. Here is part of one discussion. Two different orders are used, and then these integrals are computed using Maple. The results seem to be the same. 11/8/2006

Review material for the first exam
The first exam will be given on Thursday, October 19. Further information will be given about the time and the room.

The exam will cover what we've done up to and include the class meeting on Thursday, October 12. This corresponds to section 14.7 of the text.

The first workshop This is the first workshop. Students should hand in solutions on Monday, September 11. Here is general information about writing workshop solutions.
Binomial coefficients count the number of ways of taking r objects from a collection of n objects. Here n is a positive integer and r is an integer with 0≤r≤n. Straightforward information about the binomial coefficients is here and here. More than you might want to know now is here and here.
Standard mathematical notation for products and sums (capital sigma's and capital pi's) is explained here and here.
