Generic syllabus of Course 151:    http://math.rutgers.edu/courses/151/151Syllabus/151Spring12syllabus.html
Textbook:                A special package with ISBN 1-4641-0376-3 based on Jon Rogawski; Calculus: Early Transcendentals(second edition); W.H. Freeman Company, 2012 (1050 pp.) is available in local bookstores or directly from the publisher W.H. Freeman Company with free shipping.

Required work:
Please read the sections covered in class after each lecture. (It helps if you also do some preview before each lecture.) Please refer to the generic syllabus of 151 for the lecture schedule.
° Homework: We will mostly follow the generic syllabus of 151. The homework will be collected at the start of each workshop (Thursday class). Late Homework will NOT be accepted.
° Workshop:  Every Thursday class is a workshop, you will be given 3~5 problems to discuss in small groups. You don't need to actually solve every problem completely, instead try to understand the idea of the problems and know how to go through them. You will need to write up one problem (to be announced at the end of each workshop) and hand it in at the beginning of the next workshop. Students should NOT copy each other's work.
About the grading policy of workshop writeup, the following is what I've learned from the department: "The 10 point grade is usually split 5 and 5: 5 points for mathematical content, and 5 points for exposition and presentation. The mathematical content should be substantially correct and complete to earn 5 points. The other 5 points are earned by exposition, including layout, labeling of diagrams and graphs, and neatness (and spelling!). The exposition should be complete English sentences. Writeups earning 5 points for exposition should be straightforward to read and evaluate."
° Quizzes:      There will be a 10-min quiz at the end of each workshop (except for the first week and unless announced otherwise). If you pay attention in class and do all the homework, the quizzes will be a snap.
° Exams:       There will be two midterm exams and one final exam. The date of first midterm will be chosen between 02/20 (Mon) and 02/22 (Wed), the date of second midterm will be chosen between 04/02 (Mon) and 04/04 (Wed)--to be discussed in class. Final exam will occur on 05/03 (Thur) 4:00-7:00pm, SEC 205 Busch Campus.

Update on exam dates:
first midterm: 02/22 (Wed) in our regular lecture room during our regular lecture period.
second midterm: 04/04 (Wed) in our regular lecture room during our regular lecture period.
Final exam will occur on 05/03 (Thur) 4:00-7:00pm, SEC 205 Busch Campus. Note that the location is NOT our regular lecture/workshop room.

Final exam:                 200
Midterm exam I:         100
Midterm exam II:        100
Workshop Writeups:   75
Homework:                 25
Quizzes:                      25
Total:                         525

Calculators:      A graphing calculator can help a lot in class and while doing homework. HOWEVER, there should be NO calculators used during quizzes, midterm exams and final exams.

Formula sheets:      You are NOT allowed to bring your own formula sheets to any exam (midterms and final). The department will decide whether to have a generic formula sheet for all sections or not to provide a  formula sheet at all, please stay tuned.
Formula sheet for exam 1 is posted. Also the practice problem for exam 1 is posted, with abbreviated solution.
Formula sheet for exam 2 is posted. Also the practice problem for exam 2 is posted, with abbreviated solution.
More practice problems can be found at the 151 announcement page.

Calculus 1 clinic: Sara Soffer will start her Calculus I clinics on January 24. These clinics are an extra help session in an informal setting when students can ask any question, practice and go over the material, if needed. This is not a one-to-one tutoring but more of a study group/work. These clinics will be given every Tuesday, 3:00-4:20 pm at ARC 328 (Busch) and every Friday, 1:40-3:00 pm at Hill 124 (Busch). No clinics on Friday March 9 and Friday April 6. There are no clinics when there are no classes or on days when there is emergency snow closing or dangerous driving conditions.
