Abstract.

  Dependent first order theories (theories without the independence property) 
  are more general than stable theories. Is there a sense in which all
  dependent theories are simpler than all independent theories? 
  If there is a measurable cardinal, then we have such a sense. 
  Whether something similar is true without this hypothesis is unkonwn.
