COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This course continues the introduction to real analysis that was begun the previous semester in Math 501. The texts for the course is Real Analysis: Modern Techniques and their Applications by G. Folland and analysis by Lieb and Loss. The focus of the course will be on material from Chapters 4 through 8 of Folland's text, and corresponding an complementary material, especially application, in Lieb and Loss. There will be weekly problem assignments. These will be graded, with the lowest grade dropped, and will account for 30 percent of the course grade. A midterm will account for another 30 percent, and a final exam the final 40 percent.

The syllabus for the course, including week-by-week reading assignments is now posted online. The notes in the first reading assigment are these notes on topology.

The first homework assignment is due Feb 6 in class.

The second homework assignment is due Feb 18 in class.

The third homework assignment is due Mar 6 in class.
