Abstract: The Strong Subaditivity of the von Neumann entropy was proved by Lieb and Ruskai, who were motivated by conjectures arising in quantum statistical mechanics. This inequality has proved to be fundamentally important in quantum information theory, where many new application have arisen, and where it is known as the Data Processing Inequality. These new applications have motivated the search for refined versions. The cases of equality have been determined by Petz, and his work suggested a natural stability bound in term of what is known as the Petz recovery map.
This talk presents such a result, obtained in recent work with Anna Varhynina.
